01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
Step inside Reino on a Nishi-Azabu street, and the urban hum gives way to a quiet kissaten interior reminiscent of the Showa period. Surrounded by warm woodwork and antique furnishings, the café maintains the vintage atmosphere of a traditional smoking-friendly coffee house, with smoking permitted throughout. With its compact spread of counter and table seating, it offers an easy, natural setting to settle in alone with a book.
The carefully brewed coffee is the natural starting point. Alongside a dark-roast house blend offering deep, lingering body, the single-origin Brazil brewed from Mundo Novo beans reveals mild aromatics and a rounded, mellow bitterness. Affordable refills make it easy to linger over reading or quiet contemplation. The menu also covers foamy cappuccinos, con leche, and iced coffee, providing a fitting pour for whatever mood takes you.
When hunger calls, the extensive toast selection proves dependable. Offerings range from simple buttered or cheese toasts to more substantial toppings like pizza toast, spicy tuna toast, and the house special toast. For a sweet pause, a slice of homemade cheesecake provides rich flavor that sits comfortably against the bitterness of dark coffee.
Alongside kissaten staples such as fresh juices and teas, the evening introduces spirits including whisky, wine, and shochu mixed with coffee, accompanied by distinctive bites like lamb gyoza. On Fridays and Saturdays, doors stay open until 2:00 late at night, making Reino a restful stop to wind down quietly after dinner.
